Root Canal Treatment (including Post Restorations)
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to fix an infection at the root of a tooth. The infected part is removed, and the tooth is then filled or covered with a crown. This treatment is needed when the blood supply (pulp) of the tooth gets infected because of decay, injury, or disease.
After the infection is taken out, the tooth may need extra support. A small metal rod called a post is placed in the tooth and extends into the root canal below the gum line. The post helps hold the filling or crown in place and is used when there is not enough tooth left above the gum line.
