Surgical Procedures (Disimpactions, Cyst removal, etc.)

There are a variety of surgical procedures that your dentist may recommend in order to treat dental problems. These procedures can range from simple extractions to more complex procedures such as root canals. Your dentist will always aim to provide the most conservative treatment possible, but sometimes surgery is necessary in order to protect your oral health.

Some common surgical procedures that dentists perform include:

Extractions: This is the most common type of dental surgery and is typically used to remove wisdom teeth or teeth that are damaged beyond repair.

Disimpactions: This procedure is used to loosen and remove teeth that are impacted (stuck) under the gumline. Impacted teeth can cause pain, infection, and damage to surrounding teeth so it is important to have them removed as soon as possible.

Cyst removal: Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form around the roots of teeth. They are usually benign but can become infected and cause damage to nearby teeth. If a cyst is found, your dentist will likely recommend surgery to remove it.

Root canal: This procedure is used to treat an infected tooth by removing the damaged pulp and cleaning out the inside of the tooth. A root canal can save an infected tooth from needing to be extracted.
